Short story, I ordered a windshield washer pump with the Allstate warranty protection plan over a year ago. I use my washer often so I wanted to make sure it lasted and the plan lasts for 3 years. Well the pump stopped working around a year of use and started leaking all over. I simply made an account on Allstate and then uploaded the proof of my purchase (which was saved in my Amazon account ordering history), waited a few days and received notification that my warranty had been accepted. I then accepted the "Fast Cash" option and am now waiting on a check to be mailed to me (should be here within a week). The original cost of the pump was $43, warranty was roughly $7 and the check I am getting is $40 back. I assume because of some fees which I am okay with. Essentially I paid $10 for a pump that lasted a year and now am back at square one of finding a new one. So essentially I got a $40 pump that lasted a year for only $10. I am very satisfied with this protection plan. The only downside is that the pump has now increased in price but that is not a reflection of this service, just unfortunate timing but you can't win them all!
My recommendation, way your options. Some times these protection plans aren't worth it but other times they are. I made the decision that being covered for 3 years was well worth the $7 for me on something that I've had break before.
Totally misleading, and feels like a scam. I spent $7 for an extended warranty for a $40 part, primarily because of Allstate's clearly stated claim of "No additional costs for repairs - parts, labor, and shipping are all included" in the product description.
Well, that's a straight up lie. Turns out, the part I bought failed and I needed a repair. Luckily, I have a warranty, right?! Well, what they don't tell you is that their warranty liability is only up to the value of the part, so in my case, $40. I'm pretty sure any tech will charge you at least that $40 just to look at it, so the warranty basically is almost worthless in my case. Seriously, why would anyone spend $7 to save $40? Insurance, in general, is to offset significant loss, not to get $33 net back, but alas, they want to fight me on this so my options were either (1) get $40 back or (2) cancel the warranty and get $7 back. What a deal!
This seems like the opposite of "you are in good hands with Allstate". What a rip off.
When I bought a new snowmobile lead-acid battery a couple of years ago, I purchased the extra warranty. After a couple of years, the battery would never charge fully and would quickly drop to 10v when the charger was removed. The Allstate warranty was easy to claim and they refunded the original price I paid for the battery and I bought a new one.
I put in a claim and was told when I purchased my product and they suggested that I contact the manufacturer. If they had read my receipts, they would have seen that I had purchased the item almost 2 years ago. It makes me think that they wanted to automatically pass it off on the manufacturer instead of reading the receipt dates, resulting in they not paying for it. In the end, I resolved my dispute and they refunded me cost.
Completely worth it to get the warranty! I was able to receive a refund for a part that went bad. Filing the claim was easy, quick and I got a result to my claim in less than an hour.
