I go to the Straight Talk web site and they do not have the upgraded base station in stock. I contact ST Customer Care, and they can't tell me when the transition will occur, nor can they tell me when the required hardware will be available to purchase from their web site. So I search the internet for information and learn that Straight Talk has been using ZTE branded equipment. I also learn that some ZTE base stations have issues with incoming calls. Then I learn that another brand, Moxee, is also being used for the ST Home Phone base.
I find the upgraded base stations available from Amazon, and take a leap of faith to order my replacement and get a good working device. Three days later I receive my new Moxee branded base station, factory fresh in a Straight Talk box. After much searching on the ST web site, I find the links to update my account with the new hardware IMEI and withing about 5 minutes, my service is transferred to the new base station. I have a good signal level to the base station. Calls are loud and clear. Then my wife notices that the clock on our Panasonic KX-TG7745 cordless phone system is showing a time 4 hours ahead of local time.
Whereas with the Hauwei base station, the timestamp on Caller-ID would always update the clock on the Panasonic system to current local time, with the Moxee base station, the timestamp seems to be using UTC rather than our Eastern Time Zone local time. I again contact Straight Talk Customer Care explaining my problem. To date, this issue has not be fixed. Luckily, on the Panasonic system, you can change a setting to use a "manual" time rather than "auto-time from Caller-ID" which is the default. This seems to have fixed my only issue with the Moxee branded Straight Talk Home Phone device. I will just have to manually set the Panasonic clock when changing to/from Daylight Savings Time, or due to drift of the internal timing circuit.
So after a week since transferring my service to using the new Straight Talk Home Phone base station, I have successfully gone through Auto-refill for my monthly payment of service, our clocks on the Panasonic cordless phone system shows close to proper time, and we have had no issues with signal strength or call quality. Hopefully we can get 10-15 years of good service with the current technology and our new equipment.
