Just as a word of caution. When they do this renew thing in selling it. It just means that it physically looks good to a certain standard and at the moment all the parts are functional and working.
For the price we payed we really got duped. The screen should not of manafactorer damage lifted screen defect in 7 months.
Installed the Android 11 and then 12 versions per Motorola prompts and the RAZR works just a tad faster.
All in all, I like the RAZR for its styling. Only downsides are the cellphone finish is very slippery and difficult to open, therefore you’ll need a good case around the phone. Also, you can’t separate the notification and ring sound levels. They are combined into one slider. I like to have my notifications at a lower sound level from the phone ring.
I’ll work with it for a month or two and see if it will suit my needs.
It was not (as indicated when I bought it)
So I am returning it.
So bummed
The pOLED display itself can't quite match the brightness and rich contrast of glass OLED displays that you typically find on flagship or very good midrange phones but the colors do look nice and overall Motorola's pOLED display provides a pleasing viewing experience and very good touch response.
The call quality of this phone is very good and I get excellent T-mobile reception but the big surprise for me on this phone is the camera. Motorola makes underrated phones that run a cleaner version of Android than Samsung and provide much better value but cameras have never really been their strength.
That's why I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent pictures the Razr 5G camera takes even in low light without a flash. I have never owned a Motorola phone that took pictures with such rich detail and color so kudos to Motorola for improving what is usually a weak point on their phones but there is a quirk that I don't quite get. On a Huawei or Xiaomi phone when in a low-light situation the AI will automatically switch the camera into the low-light mode to capture the best possible image. On the Razr 5G, the AI suggests that you use Night Mode instead of automatically switching on its own. I'm not sure why Motorola's camera doesn't just do this seamlessly in the background on its own but since switching to Night Mode involves a flick of the screen and takes a second it's exactly an issue.
Motorola did get a lot right but for most people, I don't think the Razr 5G is a good option. Folding clamshell phones were popular when cell phones were still mostly used for calling and texting and despite the full smartphone functionality that the Razr 5G provides it still doesn't feel like a phone that you should use for much more than calling and texting.
The pOLED display looks lovely but the surface is polymer instead of glass. The touch response is fine but the surface doesn't feel right for gaming when you are actually sliding your fingers around on it. Besides the fact that glass provides a better tactile experience (although many people use polymer screen protectors over their smartphone displays and don't seem to mind how they feel) the pOLED display can't provide the same kind of resistance under pressure as glass so I am genuinely concerned about damaging the display while I'm trying to play a game.
If you use your smartphone a lot for streaming video and watching movies or television episodes I couldn't recommend the Razr 5G for that either. The pOLED display does look nice but the Razr 5G is significantly lighter than a conventional smartphone and is hinged in the middle. The Razr 5G just doesn't feel durable enough to be held in your hands for hours of streaming.
The Razr 5G doesn't even feel durable enough to use regularly for GPS navigation because the thin body and hinge aren't likely to hold up as well as a smartphone with a solid glass display when used every day in a clamping phone mount.
While I do really like the portability and aesthetic design philosophy of the Motorola Razr 5G I ultimately ended up using it as my backup phone (I have two SIM cards) instead of carrying it around for daily use. Unless you want a stylish and pricy backup phone the Razr 5G is hard to recommend.
