I did not get this intending to use the finished clock. It has more features than I expected. 12/24 hour display, year, month, day, day of week (by number 1 - 7) thermometer (C or F), hourly chime with user set range, alarm, and automatic night light. It also has a voice that will read the numbers of the time on button push. The thermometer is inaccurate and has limited range, but it is and interesting inclusion. I think you could improve the night light by adding a variable resister to dim it.
Suggest the power input be moved to the back so the cord isn't so visible.
Like a lot of these projects the instructions are not the greatest. Figured it out but the instructions for setting it up could have been written much better.
It is very bright but does cut to about half when the room gets darker.
one thing ive noticed with this build is, if your top button is giving you voiced randomness, your the USB supply/port you have it plugged into is not putting out enough current. try a different USB power adapter. a fully in spec USB 2.0 hub (an old monoprice aquagate USB hub) gave my this issue.
the LED is optional. and personally id recommend omitting it.
Opening the kit, all of the resistors are clearly marked, so no worries about trying to identify color bands. I did test several of the resistors with a multi meter and they were all very close to spec. The makers of this kit were smart and put the only surface mounted IC on its own separate board and provided pins and a socket to attach it to the main board. Included printed instructions are OK, up to a point. The instructions tell you to install the electrolytic capacitor at C6, but don't tell you the value of the capacitor, as there are two in the kit.
The QR code printed on the instruction sheet takes you to clear, precise photos and instructions.
Very good quality kit. I might buy another one to keep on my desk at the office.

A few other things. I'm an experienced solderer and know my way around. There is a few obviously missed assembly instructions including the speaker. (I also had to modify the case to get the speaker to fit then used the tip of the iron to melt the plastic to hold the speaker.
2 in place of a barrel terminal for voltage input I'd highly suggest a Mini USB or USB c input. I had to dig thru my box of adapters to find the right end and right 5v adapter. Will be making my own terminal so I can adapt USB to barrel for my ham radio bench.
Another thing that would be nice is 2 time zone as it rolls thru the screens. Say Local time and Zulu / GMT time.
Also something not mentioned in the instructions is when you manually scroll the screens there is a 1-7 selectable on the last screen. Instructions say for another 1-3 to select what it scrolls thru but not the 1-7 selectable.
Over all not something for a totally green novice but even made someone as experienced as me an enjoyable few hours.
-1 star mostly because of fit and finish and the modifications and repairs I had to make.
